Learning (In A) Brave New World

I have finished Brave New World this past week & I was left confused. I was left to think "what was I supposed to get out of this?" I did not get the allusion behind the novel. I was confused about the island & the Savage John. 

Not everyone had finished when had so I was led hanging there to figure it out on my own. Though what we all had finished & were able to discuss I understood fairly well.
